Are you ready
If my 21 year old child or my 18 year old best friend were to ask me how they know they are married for marriage, I would not know what to say. I would probably talk about having the ââ¬Å"right ageâ⬠which to some can be early, but to others it can be a long time. I would explain the consequences of marrying early such as divorce. I would explain that marriage is not a game and that it should be taken seriously as it is a lifelong commitment, sure there are times where people go through divorce but you eve to live with that person every day. That gets me into my next point: the right spouse. If you are to marry, it should be with the person you are most comfortable with. This person should make you feel good when you are together. They should entertain you and put a smile on your face when you most need it. The person should make you feel like you are around your best friend whom you can confess your secrets and lend you a helping. The other person should help build you up and help you reach your personal goals. You should not feel like you are tied down to someone and that they are baggage. Another thing you should consider is If you want to settle down. To my child I would agree with their decision on getting married because they are older and have somewhat of a plan for their future, and are wiser in making their decision. As for my 18 year old friend, I would give her the advice to maybe wait a little longer. They are young and should go out into the world and explore all the different things you can do as a single person.I would also tell my best friend that they are younger and so their decisions are not set In stone. I would give them both this statement: ââ¬Å"Are you ready to settle downâ⬠. Marriage will become your priority and you will not have time for many things Like going out with friends especially if you plan to bring children Into your home. My last advice for them would be to sit down and think If they see themselves settles with a family and giving up their life of leisure that they have now.

Paths of Glory vs All Quiet on the Western Front Essay
ââ¬Å"Paths of Gloryâ⬠and ââ¬Å"All Quiet on the Western Frontâ⬠are two different stories about the 1st world war. They are similar and different in their own ways. Many children born in North America usually grow up seeing war movies from the Americaââ¬â¢s point of view. This is different in Paths of Glory and All Quiet on the Western Front. These films/novels display how European countries fought this war, whether it was good or bad. They display both sides of WWI, and when compared can show differences AND similarities. Here are their differences. A thorough look at these two stories can uncover many differences, but the main ones would be the point of view being French and German; a soldiers perspective and an officers perspective; and the outcomes of each side. Paths of Glory(POG) displays Franceââ¬â¢s view of the war while All Quiet on the Western Front(AQWF) displays Germanyââ¬â¢s view of the war. The story AQWF is about German soldiersââ¬â¢ take on the war. It relates more to young readers lives and the struggles of young soldiers in a war. POG on the other hand, targets the officers as the main point of view in the war. It displays the corruption and the loyalty of officers. In POG the French have the upper hand on the Germans in the war and donââ¬â¢t seem to ever be drastically losing, while in AQWF, there is death everywhere and it ends with all of the main characters dying and Germany losing the war. All these things display the differences between these two epic war stories, but there are some similarities. All Quiet on the Western Front and Paths of Glory have very similar main characters, in which the characters both make the same astonishing discoveries. The characters in both cases realize that the real enemy in the war is not the country they are fighting against, but the leaders of their own military. This is much more relevant in the movie, POG, when it shows General Mireau ordering fire on his own troops. However, the theme is still in AQWF. Evidence of this is how Corporal Himmelstoss makes the menââ¬â¢s lives miserable, making them do petty things such as saluting drills. Within the novel the protagonists discover that the men they are against are not much different than themselves. Moreover, this is extremely evident with Paul, the narrator of AQWF, who spends a night in a shell hole with a Frenchman who is dying right beside Paul. Both the novel and the film show the bad living conditions, although the novel is from the German viewpoint and the film, from the French viewpoint. There are many other differences in the plots of the two stories. Similarities and differences are evident throughout All Quiet on the Western Front and Paths of Glory. The differences being the outcomes of each side, the points of view between the two countries and the points of view between officers and soldiers. The similarities of course being the corruption, the living conditions and the shared setting/time period of WWI. When all is said and done, the differences and similarities of these Great War stories make the pair amazing themes to compare and contrast.

Kate Chopinââ¬â¢s Story Of An Hour And The Storm Essay
Author Kate Chopin has expressed feminine freedom in two of her short stories: ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Story of an Hourâ⬠. She was the breakthrough author for female independence and human sexuality. Through these two short stories, Chopin describes the lives of two women who discover their freedom in times where society does not accept women as equal to men. ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠relates love and marriage as a prevention for free full blown passion. ââ¬Å"Story of an Hourâ⬠relates love and marriage to unhappiness and repression. ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠holds a very symbolic meaning for passion. It affirms feminine sexuality through Calixta and Alceeââ¬â¢s relationship. Despite Calixtaââ¬â¢s marriage to Bobinot, she proceeds with her unacceptable behavior in society with Alcee and commits adultery. Her newfound passion determines the importance of passion in 1890s where many women felt they were bound. Many parts in the story foreshadow Calixta and Alceeââ¬â¢s sexual encounter. The storm itself was describing their progressing passion with the encounter of a lightening bolt and thunder: ââ¬Å"Calixta put her hands to her eyes, and with a cry, staggered backward. Alceeââ¬â¢s arm encircled her, and for an instance he drew her close and spasmodically to him.â⬠The increasing power of the storm represents the increasing passion between the two lovers. This short story puts aside the constraints of society and marriage, and opens a door for feminine sexuality. The same sense of freedom that Chopin expressed in ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠applies to ââ¬Å"Story of an Hourâ⬠. Main character Louise Mallard is an elderly woman who has lost her husband. She is in a state of thought when she realizes her newfound freedom. She discovers that her marriage was a bondage and hopes for a long life to enjoy this new freedom. Her marriage seemed to have cast shadows on her happiness. In this time of thought, she focuses on her own feelings and indifference to her husband Brently Mallard. Even more so Louise is affected with her heart condition. Her heart condition foreshadowed Louiseââ¬â¢s demise. Itââ¬â¢s purpose was to describe her as weak of heart and weak of character. She could not accept her misery and lacked honor even so to be aware of her own unhappiness. Thisà again expressed the oppression of women in the 1890s mentally and physically. The two stories share a sense of contradiction. Calixta is left happy and renewed after her experience. She welcomes her husband Bobinot and her son Bibi happily when they arrive home after the storm. This is where Chopin describes the first step into freedom of marriage and sexuality. ââ¬Å"Story of an Hourâ⬠on the other hand expresses demise of a woman who was on the verge of freedom. Louise is happy too when she realizes that her marriage was preventing her from happiness. She chanted the word free to her self in realization. She is so overwhelmed with her freedom that she dies when her surviving husband appears to her. She dies of knowing that she does not have her freedom after all. Chopin expressed love as a way of freedom and oppression in her short stories. She described Calixtaââ¬â¢s adultery a passion while Louisââ¬â¢s marriage an oppression. Either way, it lead to some sort of resolution into freedom. The discovery of passion in ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠was so great that Alcee himself did not want to commit to his wife. In ââ¬Å"Story of an Hourâ⬠Louise Mallard considered her marriage and love unreal and unworthy of her. She does not want to be under the will of another person Women of Chopinââ¬â¢s time felt these fictionous stories, but were undermined of society. Love, passion, and marriage work together in ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Story of an Hourâ⬠to bring an idea to the reader of how relationships were in the 1890s. Love and marriage fall to passion in Chopinââ¬â¢s stories.

A Concept note is designed to allow you to demonstrate an Essay
A Concept note is designed to allow you to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts that are dealt with during the delivery of the module - Essay Example Positivism emerged due to the rejection of the metaphysics concepts for example, god. Sociologists then found it difficult to explain concepts and neither could they prove and test these ideas; therefore, they saw the need of looking for alternative ideas. Moreover, they felt that social science should be as objective and verifiable like other subjects; thus, they came up with positivism as an alternative to metaphysics (Anderson, 2004; p. 142). Therefore, positivism was applied to describe social phenomenon, but did not dig deep into what was unlikely be known or those phenomena that were considered to be beyond the scope of social science. The positivists concluded that research work could be analyzed and concluded only from what is observable. Therefore, according to positivism, what could be seen and measured from the subject matter under study. Notably, positivism can find its application in research marketing in that some phenomena of marketing can only be measured and analyzed through observation (Browne, 2006; p. 400). For instance, observation is sometimes vital in measuring the trend in some market activity from which conclusions can be made on the best marketing practices to be incorporated to increase such marketing activities. On the other hand, Interpretivism emerged because scientists felt that human being were never puppets to respond to stimuli in certain defined or prescribed manner. The defined human beings as purposeful and active: thus, they were expected to react to stimuli in differently depending on their means of interaction and interpretation (Belk, 2006; p. 157). Moreover, they define human beings as objects having power and intent interpret actions; therefore, they were capable to construct actions taking place within their surroundings as opposed to being mere spectators to the events taking place about them (Browne, 2006; p. 400). The interpretivists stressed on the thinking, behaviors, and intentions of human beings

Mark Rothko - Contradiction between flatness and depth Research Paper
Mark Rothko - Contradiction between flatness and depth - Research Paper Example The essay "Mark Rothko - Contradiction between flatness and depth" discusses the art of Mark Rothko. In 1923, he went to visit one of his friends at the Art studentsââ¬â¢ league in New York where he got the opportunity to see students sketching. This really impressed him and later he decided to enroll in a school of design. One of the instructors that he met was artist Arshile Gorky. Out of the passion he had for art, he undertook other classes at the Art Students League. At the time, painters in New York were having many shows to display their artistic expressions and this largely helped Rothko as an artist. Rothko had his first art gallery show in the contemporary art gallery in New York. He displayed fifteen paintings that were mostly portraits and some drawings that were all oil based paintings. ââ¬Å"The tenâ⬠was a group that was formed by some artists including Mark Rothko during the late 1935. Their main mission was to object the alleged equivalence of literal painti ng and American painting. At this time his art started to evolve and he came to the conclusion that his paintings will be influenced by symbols and mythological fables and it became more evident in his later works. This made him gain a reputation amongst people his age and also those who had an eye for art in terms of painting. He then later on changed his works from mythological forms and representations to the use of rectangular smooth fields of light and color. From 1946, Mark Rothko came up with a number of artistic expressions.

Migration Geography Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Migration Geography - Research Paper Example Push/pull factors to the factors driving Latin American immigration to the U.S. today This section compares and contrasts between the push/pull factors to the factors driving Latin American immigration (both documented and undocumented) to the U.S. today. Push factors basically involve the motives for emigrating from oneââ¬â¢s country of origin. With economic migration (usually labor migration), wage rate differentials are quite prominent. It is notable that Latin Americans might choose to migrate from their country to another country, especially the United States due to higher wages that what they can get in their native country, as long as the costs of such migration are not too high. In the 19th century, the economic expansion of the United States led to a huge rise in the flow of immigrants, and approximately one fifth of the population was foreign-born as against the present values of about ten percent. This makes up a significant part of the labor force. There are also some non-economic push factors like oppression, persecution (both religious and otherwise), war, genocide and frequent abuse. In some cases, migration occurs due to personal reasons, or as a result of wanting to be with family relatives or a partner. In some cases, people may migrate from their country to another country due to a form of ââ¬Ëtransferred patriotismââ¬â¢. Migration may also result for the wish to avoid arrest, and this is seen to be a personal motivation. Migration of this kind illegal, especially if the crime in question is internationally recognized. Thus, criminals may then try to hide their identity or seek other loopholes in an attempt to avoid detection. (Immigration and Naturalization Service. 2001) One major force pushing Latin American immigrants into the United States is the difference between the aspirations of these Latin Americans and the scant opportunities in their countries of origin, as against the belief that absolute poverty is the main reason for migration. ââ¬Å"Barriers to immigration come not only in legal form; natural and social barriers to immigration can also be very powerful.â⬠(Barnard, Alexander, 2007). In most cases, when these immigrants leave their country, they also leave everything familiar to them behind, including their culture, families and friends. The Census of 2010 indicated that there were about 50.5 million Latin Americans in the United Sates, making up about 16 percent of the total population. Historically, there have been periods of shared interests in which migratory flows have been promoted. Immigration legislation in the United States is now more restrictive than in previous decades, and this is due to a growing concern in the United States about the high level immigration from Latin American countries. (Durand, Jorge, Douglass Massey, Rene Zenteno, 2001). United States immigration policy as it concerns undocumented migration from Latin America Latin American migration into the United States of America represents a major area of contention in bilateral relations between Latin American countries and the United States. In spite of United States immigration laws that many perceive to be very restrictive, Latin American countries have remained the highest producers of legal and illegal migrants into the United States. Initially, the United States encouraged migration from
